  2. This CD has most of the Ohio Players best songs, it has mostly songs from their later Mercury years. Nothing from their earlier years with Westbound Records. Still this collection has long versions of Love Roller-coaster, Sweet Sticky Thing & Skin Tight. Ohio Players are one of the many funk bands coming out of Ohio, and you won't be disappointed/5(51).
  3. beaumywhiffchenmelep.mounwadisctetheapapithepefofodul.co The Ohio Players put up one of the wildest fronts of the s' funk bands: towering Afros, raunchy rhythms with guitars cranked as loud as horns, kinky album beaumywhiffchenmelep.mounwadisctetheapapithepefofodul.co never quite as inspiredly free-associative as James Brown at his best, their chanted catch phrases bridged the gap between threateningly tough and playground-ready. Gold collects high points that are still a joy /5(12).
  4. When it gets right down to it, the Ohio Players' albums were as memorable for their risqué covers as they were for their music. Sure, there were some seriously funky individual tracks, but the Players couldn't keep the momentum up throughout the course of an entire album. And that's why Gold is such a useful collection, even in light of more comprehensive latter-day collections/

  7. With a bottom-heavy funk sound driven by bright and brilliantly arranged killer horn riffs, the Ohio Players were one of the best and most consistent of the s funk bands, and their approach and lyric sensibility in many ways prefigured the hip-hop explosion that hit some 30 years later. This two-disc, track survey of their key Mercury Records tracks explodes like a party-in-a-box.
